Writing, directing, and performing for puppetry and immersive theater

Bob Baker Marionette Theater

For the last year and a half, I’ve been working at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater as a puppeteer, while learning about puppet fabrication as an apprentice in their workshop.

I’ve performed in 6 different shows with the theater, puppeteered at Knott’s Berry Farm as part of a residency there, and worked on several film productions at the theater including music videos and an Apple TV+ shoot.

Additionally, I assist in the fabrication, restoration, and refurbishment of old and new marionettes.

Featured Projects

“Interview with a Pumpkin” - October 2023

For this piece, Gabe Jamison and I interviewed friends and family ranging from ages 7 to 92, asking them about life at their respective ages.

Each jack-o-lantern puppet was carved out of a real pumpkin, existing only for this one performance. Why do jack-o-lanterns’ brief lives on our doorsteps bring us so much joy? And how is it that those fleeting moments in life are the ones we remember most, that mean the most, and that make it all worth it?

I feel so fortunate to have captured these beautiful moments with my loved ones, including my elderly grandparents.

Sting” - Shadow Puppetry - August 2023

For the LA Guild of Puppetry’s astrology-themed Puppet Slam, I created and live puppeteered this piece using an overhead projector. Music and narration by yours truly.

I then brought this piece to the California Creative Learning Academy where I assistant taught 3rd graders as part of thei arts integration program. In this class, students learned about LA history and native animals around the LA River by creating shadow puppet shows.

“Lucky to be Me” - Hand, Rod & Mirror Puppetry - March 2023

I wrote, built, directed, and performed this piece with Ricky Chavez for the LA Guild of Puppetry’s Puppetzilla Puppet Slam.

Campfire Tales: Shadows in the Flame

Campfire Tales was an intimate immersive show of spooky stories told around the campfire that spanned 8 nights.

For this event, I wrote and performed an original scary story/song on guitar called Aria the Earworm.
